Again acquires Geno to advance biomanufacturing at scale with AI design

Denmark-based biotech firm Again has acquired Genomatica Inc. in order to bolster its biomanufacturing operations utilizing artificial intelligence for biomolecule design. The acquisition allows Again to integrate its modular bioreactors, which employ engineered microbes to convert industrial carbon dioxide waste into valuable chemicals, with Geno's AI-driven discovery platform.

Together, the two companies can convert up to 85 million tons of CO2 annually by repurposing carbon emissions as a resource for producing materials for various industries, such as adhesives, plastics, textiles, and cosmetics. Geno's technology uses engineered E. coli strains to ferment plant sugars into eco-friendly chemicals, while Again's process captures up to 1 ton of emissions per day, preventing an additional 85 million tons of carbon emissions.

The combined effort will not only reduce environmental impact and reliance on fossil fuels but also create new revenue streams by turning waste into valuable products.
