After July boost, Telangana braces for subdued rainfall spell

After a July boost, Telangana is bracing for a subdued rainfall spell. Meteorologists have forecast light to moderate showers in most areas with isolated heavy rainfall in a few pockets. There are no signs of a new low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal. The Indian Ocean Dipole remains in a neutral phase, and the Madden-Julian Oscillation is not favoring rain.

Most monsoon activity is currently over northern India, resulting in subdued rainfall in Telangana. In June, the State received 11.5 cm of rainfall, a deficit of 12% compared to the normal 13 cm. July saw 22.4 cm of rainfall, narrow the deficit to just 1% against the normal 22.7 cm. From June 1 to date, Telangana has received 41 cm of rainfall against the normal 44.5 cm, leaving an overall deficit of about 8%.

GHMC area has received 30.2 cm of rainfall, a deficit of 13%. Temperatures have remained above normal, with maximum temperatures ranging between 31C and 34C, and minimum temperatures a few degrees higher. Hyderabad's INCOIS predicts a high probability of El Niño conditions from August 2026 to March 2027, which may weaken the Indian monsoon rainfall.
