Accord Party demands prosecution of Fadahunsi over ‘kill them’ comment

The Accord Party has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi after a video emerged showing him allegedly threatening to kill members of his own party ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15. In the video, Fadahunsi, representing the Osun East Senatorial District, can be heard telling his supporters, "If we see anyone from the Accord Party, we will kill them."

However, Fadahunsi's media office later clarified that he meant his supporters should "overwhelmingly reject" the Accord Party through lawful, peaceful, and democratic means during the election. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, denounced the comments as "outrageous and reprehensible" and capable of escalating political tension in the state.

He urged the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services to arrest Fadahunsi and quell his supporters' violence. The Accord Party also demanded international bodies such as the European Union, United States, United Kingdom missions, African Union, and ECOWAS to monitor the situation in Osun and condemn any activities that could undermine the electoral process.

The party alleged that over 60 of its members were arrested in Abuja and Nasarawa State to prevent them from participating in the election and urged authorities to release them and stop further arrests of its leaders and supporters.
