Abiodun to Ogun monarchs: Mobilise subjects for peaceful, responsible 2027 elections

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called upon traditional rulers throughout the state to utilize their influence in mobilizing citizens for peaceful and responsible participation in the 2027 general elections. Inaugurating Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo as the new Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Abiodun emphasized the importance of encouraging citizens to support government development initiatives and refrain from engaging in violence or hatred.

He highlighted the significance of the upcoming elections as a crucial democratic transition, citing that democracy's strength is determined not only by the number of votes cast but also by the level of peace, responsibility, and sound judgment citizens exercise when exercising their franchise.

The governor stressed that traditional institutions, owing to their extensive reach and moral authority at the grassroots level, play a vital role in ensuring the upcoming electoral season does not undermine the state's ongoing accomplishments in peace and development. He urged the monarchs to educate their subjects about the importance of civic participation and discourage violent or divisive behavior during elections.

Abiodun praised the traditional rulers for their support in maintaining peace, enhancing security, and fostering grassroots development, noting that their insights into local communities are indispensable for effective security operations.

Acknowledging the recent arrest of suspects involved in the abduction of Gateway ICT Polytechnic students, Abiodun assured Ogun residents that the government would continue to work with security agencies to eliminate any sanctuary for criminals in the state. He also distributed 60 Sports Utility Vehicles to members of the State Council of Obas, aiming to enhance their mobility and enable them to perform their responsibilities effectively.

Governor Abiodun urged the monarchs to strengthen unity among themselves and promote initiatives that contribute to the state's advancement, while also emphasizing the importance of supporting government programs and policies aimed at improving the socio-economic development of Ogun.
