A Rajasthan sanitation workers’ stir gets BJP backing, then Congress joins

Sanitation workers in Alwar, Rajasthan, staged a protest over long overdue appointment letters, with the Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma supporting their cause. The dispute dates back to 2012, when 329 sanitation workers were selected but never given appointment letters. In 2019, the Rajasthan High Court directed the DLB to form a committee to take a decision, but the committee did not act until 2023.

Sharma expressed his displeasure with the Collector and Municipal Commissioner, demanding the appointment of sanitation workers. Congress leader Aryan Zubair Khan also joined the protest, turning it into a clash between the two parties. Tensions escalated as workers from both the BJP and Congress clashed, with Congress alleging BJP workers were pushing and abusing them.

After five sanitation workers received appointment letters, the protest ended. A committee has been formed to issue appointment letters to the remaining workers.
