7-month water crisis at Dawhenya, Gbetsile and its environs disrupt health and school services

Residents of Dawhenya Community 25, including Gbetsile, Sakibediako and Top 10, have been experiencing a prolonged water crisis for about seven months. This has led to significant disruptions in healthcare, schooling and household activities. Many households are now relying on untreated borehole water for cooking and other domestic needs, raising public health concerns.

The situation is particularly affecting healthcare delivery at the Sackey Bediako CHPS compound, where health workers say the lack of reliable water supply is making it difficult to provide basic services safely. As a result, some expectant mothers are traveling outside the community for antenatal and delivery services, while private health facilities have had to rely on tanker services at considerable cost.

Schools in the affected area are also struggling with sanitation and basic hygiene issues due to the water shortage. Residents are appealing to the Ghana Water Company and other authorities to urgently restore regular water supply to the affected communities to prevent a wider public health crisis.
