Sarawak's Education Department announced the closure of six schools in Tebedu and Serian due to unhealthy air quality indexes (IPU) exceeding 200. The closed schools include SK Sejijag, SK Sungai Sameran, SK Tepoi, SK Entubuh, SK Temong, and SK Tema, which together have 579 students and 104 staff members. Although the closures are temporary, the department stated that online learning (PdPR) will continue during this period.

Any decisions regarding reopening the schools will take into account the development of IPU readings and guidelines set by the authorities. The Education Department's district offices (PPD) in Serian will continue to monitor the IPU readings and air quality from now on by obtaining information from relevant agencies. Schools are reminded to constantly monitor the IPU readings in their respective areas and take appropriate action based on the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education.

Schools located in areas with IPU readings above 200 must be closed indefinitely without waiting for special instructions from the department or district offices. Simultaneously, schools must promptly inform the PPD and Jabatan Pendidikan Nasional (JPN) about the closure for coordination, monitoring, and record-keeping purposes.

According to the Air Quality Management System of the Department of Environment, the highest IPU reading of 199 was recorded at IPD Serian, which is the highest among all states as of 12:00 PM today. Other areas with unhealthy air quality include Kuching (175), Samarahan (174), Sarikei (161), Sri Aman (158), Bintulu (156), Samalaju (153), Miri (152), Sibu (151), Putrajaya (125), Cheras (107), Banting, and Kuala Selangor, each with 103 and 101 readings, respectively.
