Yemen’s coastguard says 6 killed in Houthi strike on ship in Red Sea

Yemen's coastguard reported that six individuals lost their lives in a Houthi attack on a cargo vessel in the Red Sea near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. This incident is part of a series of deadly strikes against ships in and around the Red Sea since the Houthis declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia last month. The coastal guard from Yemen's recognized government stated that four sailors on the cargo ship named Tihamah were among the casualties, alongside two members of the rescue forces deployed.

The attack caused a fire to erupt on the vessel, leading to extensive damage and the loss of three Pakistani nationals and one Indonesian national. A second strike targeting the rescue operation resulted in additional deaths and injuries among the personnel involved, totaling 10 people. The Houthis later claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was a ship carrying Saudi military equipment.

The Yemeni government's transport ministry accused the Houthis of multiple strikes on the ship, holding the militias responsible for the deaths, injuries, and damage. The breakdown of a Yemeni truce and the Houthis' blockade of Saudi Arabia coincide with Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
