Wike denies lobbying for Tinubu campaign DG

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has rejected allegations that he is lobbying for a position as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections. Wike emphasized his support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election and affirmed that he does not require a formal role within the campaign council to assist in securing victory for the President in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.

This denial comes after reports that listed Wike among party figures and government officials believed to be lobbying for or considered for the DG position. His Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed the statement on Monday, labeling the report as false. Wike further stated that he has not engaged in discussions about leadership or membership of the Presidential Campaign Council with anyone.

He is currently abroad, focusing on project commissions and inspections in preparation for the upcoming elections and the next year's activities. Wike reiterated that his contribution to the campaign will be through ensuring the President's electoral success in Rivers State and the FCT, without needing a specific position in the campaign council.
