‘We are not going anywhere’: Danon defends Jewish communities in West Bank at UN meeting

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, defended Jewish communities in the West Bank during a Security Council meeting on Tuesday. He emphasized that these communities would remain and continue to grow, rejecting claims that they hinder peace efforts. Danon stated, "The Security Council must understand a simple truth: We are not going anywhere. Jewish communities will stay in Judea and Samaria."

He clarified that Jewish communities are not temporary establishments nor obstacles to peace, but rather permanent homes where families reside. Danon asserted that the West Bank is where the Jewish people's eternal connection to the Land of Israel originated. "Judea and Samaria is where our people's eternal connection to the Land of Israel began," he declared.

Danon argued that the Security Council was applying a double standard by focusing on "settler violence" in Israel while ignoring hundreds of Palestinian terrorist attacks. He accused the council of labeling Israeli actions as "settler violence" but only naming the perpetrators in Palestinian attacks. Danon argued that this approach was unjust and prejudiced.

The ambassador invoked Jewish historical and biblical ties to the West Bank to support their right to live there. He cited the Torah as evidence of the Jewish people's connection to the land. Danon concluded, "Our right to live in our land is based on our historical connection to it. It is described in the Torah. Judea and Samaria is where our story in the Land of Israel began. It is where it will continue." He reiterated, "We are not going anywhere."
