Veteran Manly prop Nathan Brown outlines NRL exit plan

Manly prop Nathan Brown announced his intention to retire from the NRL at the end of the 2026 season, simplifying his approach to the upcoming year. Brown, who has played for Wests Tigers, South Sydney, Parramatta, and the Roosters over his 14-year career, aims to join Super League next season. The Sea Eagles will take on the Dolphins in a Friday night match, where Brown will make his first start in two years due to the team's forward shortage.

Brown's decision to retire comes after a prolific 14-year career, during which he played a crucial role in the Sea Eagles' success, including participating in two State of Origin games for New South Wales in 2020 and the 2022 grand final. Despite his age, Brown remains committed to giving his all this season, viewing the last month at Manly as particularly significant due to the team's need to win their final four games to secure a top-eight finish.

The veteran forward expressed gratitude for the lessons he learned throughout his career, acknowledging how much he has grown and changed over time. Brown admitted to a change in attitude when he first started playing, noting that he was bigger, less fit, and had a different mindset compared to his current self. He is proud of the impact he has made off the bench this year, despite his physical limitations.

Brown also mentioned that he could still play another year in the NRL if physically capable but felt mentally ready to conclude his career. Manly currently faces challenges with injuries to both Paseka and Ethan Bullemor, along with the absence of other key players, which could impact their chances in the finals.
