UP approves 73,184 homes under PMAY-U 2.0 across 137 urban bodies

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved 73,184 new homes under the Beneficiary-Led Individual House Construction component of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) across 137 urban local bodies, officials announced on Monday. This decision was made during a meeting of the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee chaired by chief secretary S P Goyal.

With this latest approval, the total number of houses sanctioned in Uttar Pradesh under BLC component of PMAY-U 2.0 has now reached 4,88,526, the state government reported. Goyal emphasized the importance of adhering to timelines, maintaining construction standards and ensuring timely delivery of homes to beneficiaries. He also stressed on regular monitoring of projects to avoid any delays.

The chief secretary directed officials to keep a close eye on the progress of the sanctioned projects. PMAY-U 2.0, launched in September 2024, is the Centre's mission to provide affordable housing for one crore additional urban households with an investment of Rs 10 lakh crore, of which Rs 1.6 lakh crore will be provided as central assistance.

The scheme operates through four components: Beneficiary-Led Construction, Affordable Housing in Partnership, Affordable Rental Housing and Interest Subsidy Scheme. Under BLC, eligible families receive financial assistance to construct a pucca house on their own land with a carpet area of 30 to 45 square meters. Uttar Pradesh has now sanctioned nearly 4.89 lakh houses under the BLC component of PMAY-U 2.0.
