UEFA Super Cup: Three Aston Villa players to miss PSG clash

Aston Villa will be missing Ezri Konsa, Ollie Watkins, and Emiliano Martinez for their upcoming UEFA Super Cup match against Paris-Saint Germain. Manager Unai Emery aims to provide the trio with additional holiday time. All three players have been the subject of interest from other clubs this summer; Konsa potentially to Arsenal and Liverpool, Martinez to Juventus, and Watkins possibly to a Turkish side.

However, Emery asserts that the trio will be given four weeks off, not three, due to their involvement in the 2026 World Cup. At the pre-match press conference, Emery stated, "They are not here because they finished the season on July 19 and I gave them four weeks to rest and it is completely necessary." While Emery believes Villa's absence will be felt, he acknowledges that Paris-Saint Germain may face similar challenges.

"Of course, if they were here, maybe we will have many more chances, but at the same time, I think PSG will be in same situation as us. We will prepare the game with players, even some young players, like we started with four weeks ago." Emery concedes that his squad is favored to win.
