UAE donates US$1m relief items to support Ghana’s June 29 flood victims

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated US$1 million worth of relief items to assist Ghana in the wake of devastating floods on June 29. The donation, facilitated by UAE AID, included essential supplies such as food and household essentials like cooking oil, sardines, spaghetti, rice, beans, gari, sachet water, mattresses, and blankets.

The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of President Mahama and the people of Ghana for the generous humanitarian aid. He emphasized that the UAE's prompt response underscored the strong ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two nations, further solidifying their longstanding bilateral relations.

The aid's timely delivery would offer much-needed relief to flood-affected communities, according to Issifu. Rashid Al Shamsi, the Executive Director for Operations of UAE AID, highlighted that the UAE views Ghana as a home and is committed to supporting the nation during challenging times, emphasizing a shared sense of responsibility.

Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, accepted the aid on behalf of the government and applauded the UAE's gesture, acknowledging the critical role of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in coordinating the national disaster response. Terlabi stressed that collective efforts from the government, communities, institutions, and other stakeholders are vital for effective disaster prevention, preparedness, and response.

Additionally, James Gyakye Quayson, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, expressed appreciation for the UAE's donation, affirming it as a testament to the enduring and strong relationship between Ghana and the UAE.
