UAE crowned champions in two divisions at Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Abu Dhabi

The 2026 Jiu-Jitsu World Championship concluded on a triumphant note for Abu Dhabi, as the UAE national team clinched world titles in both the Adult and Under-21 Newaza divisions. Over 1,500 athletes from various nations participated in the event, which took place at the Mubadala Arena over nine days. The UAE demonstrated strong performance at home, securing a total of 65 medals, including 18 gold, 17 silver, and 30 bronze.

Notably, the Adult team achieved a standout result by winning the Newaza world title and topping the overall Adult standings across all disciplines, including Contact Jiu-Jitsu, Fighting, Duo, and Show. Even though the UAE only competed in Newaza, they excelled in the overall standings, which encompassed results from multiple disciplines.

The Under-21 team added another world title to the UAE's collection by winning the Newaza competition, highlighting the prowess of the nation’s upcoming athletes. Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi, chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, expressed his satisfaction, stating that the team's achievements reflect the progress of the athletes. He credited the leadership's strong belief in sports as a means to develop individuals, discover talent, and create champions.

Omar Al Fadhli, the gold medalist in the Adult Under 69kg category, emphasized the pride of winning a gold medal alongside the entire team. He stressed the importance of staying focused and adapting to every opponent during a World Championship. Abdulrahman Mohammed, the gold medalist in the Under-21, Under-56kg category, expressed his motivation to advance to the adult division, aiming to compete at the highest level from the outset.

He acknowledged that the upcoming challenges will be tougher, but this gold medal serves as a significant stepping stone for his future success.
