However, improper administration, incorrect dosages, or counterfeit products can lead to iatrogenic botulism. Symptoms can mimic classic foodborne botulism, making diagnosis difficult. A case study illustrates this point: a young woman, after months of unexplained symptoms, was finally diagnosed with iatrogenic botulism after mentioning recent cosmetic procedures.
