Pitching in his home debut, Tarik Skubal went five innings for the Dodgers, though he was unable to secure a win after allowing three runs on four hits. Skubal's performance marked his second start since being traded to the Dodgers at the trade deadline, following his two consecutive Cy Young Award wins with the Detroit Tigers.

Freddie Freeman broke the tie in the seventh inning with a crucial single, scoring Shohei Ohtani from second base. Max Muncy contributed significantly with a three-run double, while Freddie Freeman displayed his batting prowess with three hits in the game. The Dodgers capitalized on a Royals first-inning RBI single by Jac Caglianone, who later hit a two-run homer in the third inning, pushing the Dodgers' lead to 3-0.

Edwin Diaz closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning, earning his sixth save of the season.
