Supermassive Games announces layoffs, up to 75 workers may be affected

Supermassive Games has announced its third round of layoffs in three years, potentially affecting up to 75 workers. The developer stated that the decision is necessary to ensure the company's sustainability. The company acknowledged that this will be a difficult time for everyone and pledged to provide support to those affected.

In July, Supermassive cut 36 roles when it delayed its horror game Directive 8020 from October 2025 to May 2026. The studio cited the ever-evolving nature of the industry and the need to adapt its team structure. Directive 8020 received mixed reviews and reportedly sold around 447,000 units on major platforms. February saw about 90 employees laid off as the studio entered a consultation period.

Despite these challenges, Supermassive remains committed to focusing on its core strengths and upcoming projects to ensure the company's long-term viability.
