The Korean photographer Kim Ho-won has compiled a collection of photographs titled 'The Beauty of the Sea, Kim Ho-won's Story About Jeju's Deep Secluded Beach' which showcases the underwater world around the Seogwipo Seomjiri area. This book, along with an exhibition of the same name, is presented in honor of his late wife and daughter.

Kim Ho-won made history in 1994 by being the first to report on the indigenous fish of Cheongho Bay. In 2002, he spent a year documenting artificial reefs in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, earning him a silver medal at the Korean Photography Awards. After experiencing the heartbreaking loss of his wife and daughter, Kim Ho-won unexpectedly found solace in the vibrant and diverse life around the Seomjiri sea. He was captivated by the beauty of the underwater world, each season revealing a different aspect of the marine life.

His photographs encompass the vibrancy of spring, the brilliance of summer, the depth of autumn, and the tranquility of winter, capturing the sea's ever-changing yet constant beauty. From the vibrant coral and seaweed to the playful fish swimming through the coral gardens, bathed in the sun's gentle rays, the sea never fails to display new wonders.

The constant cycle of life and death in this underwater realm leaves a profound impact on Kim Ho-won, reigniting his passion for photography and reminding him of the value of life. His exhibition, opening soon, is scheduled to run from the 19th to the 24th at the Index Gallery in Seoul's Insadong neighborhood, with all proceeds from the sale of books and photographs going to support underprivileged children.
