Sterling Point review: Promising YA drama devolves into a daily Indian soap

Amazon Prime Video's new series Sterling Point begins with a promising premise, following 17-year-old Annie Jacobson and her twin brother Connor, adopted siblings living with their single father Steven. After learning about their estranged grandfather Gordon's death and inheritance of an island in Canada, Annie travels to Sterling Point to learn more about her family history.

There, she meets Ramona, who is Goldie's biological daughter and shares a mother with Annie and Connor. The series introduces a love triangle involving Annie and Ramona, along with various romantic complications and a cast of characters that quickly overwhelms the show. Despite its intention to explore themes of identity, family, and relationships, Sterling Point devolves into a chaotic blend of tropes and subplots, reminiscent of Indian soap operas.

While the show occasionally handles sensitive subjects like periods and parenting with sensitivity, the constant introduction of new storylines and characters leaves the central narrative feeling underdeveloped and ultimately unsatisfying.
