Spotify will label ‘AI Persona’ profiles and exclude their music from recommendations

Starting on August 11, 2026, Spotify will allow artists to self-identify as AI Personas, with the labels appearing on their profiles in August 2026. However, these AI Persona badges will initially be excluded from Spotify's editorial and algorithmic recommendations, and their music will not be included in users' personalized recommendations.

The company will identify AI Personas by reviewing artist profiles and looking for photorealistic AI-generated identities, with a focus on artists who have met pre-defined audience thresholds. Once labeled, the AI Persona badges will appear on the artist's profile in the banner and the About section, in Search, and on track rows across playlists.

By default, Spotify will not include AI Personas in its recommendations, preventing the spread of low-quality content. Users can choose to follow an AI Persona if they want to hear more music from them. Spotify's AI policies, announced in September 2025, identify and label AI music using industry-standard techniques, and ban unauthorized AI voice clones and deepfakes.

The company aims to balance AI innovations, such as its AI-powered Prompted Playlists, AI DJ, and chat, with preventing a poor user experience due to AI-generated slop. Artists will have the opportunity to appeal their AI Persona label if they believe it was incorrectly applied. Spotify acknowledges growing consumer backlash against AI-generated art and emphasizes that an AI Persona is a judgment on the artist's profile, not the music.

Users can also report artist profiles that appear to be AI Personas that haven't yet been labeled, with this feature set to launch in the months ahead.
