Shouts of 'sakau', 'tangguh' but special parliamentary sitting goes on

KUALA LUMPUR witnessed a tense parliamentary session on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report concerning the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) despite protests and demands for postponement. The session commenced with a heated atmosphere as Perikatan Nasional chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan sought to adjourn the meeting due to the prime minister's unavailability.

Anwar Ibrahim, currently serving as finance minister and previously as the prime minister, was hospitalized. Following Takiyuddin's appeal, other opposition lawmakers echoed the sentiments with shouts of "sakau," meaning to steal money, and "tangguh," translating to postpone. Despite these protests, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul maintained that the session would proceed, highlighting the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. However, the opposition lawmakers ultimately decided to walk out of the Dewan Rakyat in dissent.
