Sergey Nedovodin, St. Petersburg radio founder, dies at 61 after being beaten outside his Moscow home

Sergey Nedovodin, the founder and former executive director of the radio station Ekho Peterburga, has passed away at the age of 61. The radio station's Telegram channel announced his death, stating that Nedovodin had been in intensive care and unconscious since late June. According to the news outlet Rotonda, Nedovodin was hospitalized after being beaten in the Moscow region where he had recently relocated.

His wife, Anna Shefner, revealed that on June 23, Nedovodin had gone outside after hearing a drunk neighbor and his friend discussing something below his window. When he reprimanded them, the neighbor and his friend proceeded to beat Nedovodin. One of Nedovodin's former colleagues, Anastasia Mironova, identified the neighbor as someone involved in Russia's war in Ukraine, known as the "special military operation."

Nedovodin's condition, as reported by Shefner in early August, was extremely serious with complications such as sepsis and a lung abscess. He has not regained consciousness since the incident. Despite filing a police report, no criminal case had been initiated by August 7. However, Mironova claims that a case had since been opened.

Nedovodin co-founded Ekho Peterburga in 1998 and held executive positions at the station during the 2010s. Following a conflict with Ekho Moskvy, he departed from the station's management in 2015. In recent years, Nedovodin was involved with the research company SMR and the Living Future foundation, which organizes patriotic events and collaborates with Russia's Defense Ministry.
