Sensational Ingebrigtsen back with more European gold

Birmingham witnessed a sensational comeback by Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who secured his seventh European championship gold medal in the 5,000m race. The Norwegian athlete, who had been absent from competition for 324 days due to achilles tendon surgery, delivered a spellbinding performance, finishing the race with a time of 13min 15.29sec.

This victory marked Ingebrigtsen's first competitive race since the Tokyo World Championships in 2021, where he had finished in 10th place in the 10,000m event. Ingebrigtsen's dominance in middle-distance running was further emphasized by his unbeaten record at the European Championships, having won the golden double of 1,500m and 5,000m in 2018.
