Salary increase: Ensure direct transfer of funds for military –Ndume tells Tinubu

Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure the direct transfer of funds for the Nigerian military following the recent approval of a salary increase. Ndume, previously the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, made this request in a statement on Tuesday, suggesting that the President's plan to address insecurity is clear.

The President recently approved a salary increment for around 250,000 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Ndume emphasized, "The President should ensure direct transfer of this funds to for the military." This comes after his recent decision to expand military divisions from eight to 12, demonstrating his blueprint to combat terrorism and banditry.

Ndume stated, "The review of salary will go a long way in motivating our military personnel." He highlighted his long-standing advocacy for better motivation for military men and officers to secure a decent living wage. Ndume praised President Tinubu as a responsive leader who listens to the legitimate concerns of Nigerians, stating, "President Tinubu has once again proved that he is a responsive leader who doesn’t shut his mind to genuine and legitimate agitation of Nigerians."

He further urged the government to ensure the prompt supply of arms, ammunition, and other logistics, asserting that better pay alone will not defeat insurgency.
