S. Korea, U.S. Army chiefs discuss strengthening combined defense posture

Seoul, Aug. 11 - The Army Chief of South Korea met with a top U.S. Army official on Tuesday to discuss bolstering the joint defense capabilities of the two nations and increasing military exchanges, according to officials. General Kim Gyu-ha, the South Korean Army Chief, conversed with General Christopher LaNeve, the Acting Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, in the South Korean capital earlier on the day.

The discussion centered on broadening bilateral cooperation based on a "steadfast" combined defense posture, the armed forces disclosed.

Both military leaders highlighted the positive impact of the South Korea-U.S. alliance on peace on the Korean Peninsula and regional stability. They also deliberated on ways to improve coordination during combined military exercises and boost exchanges in logistics and sustainment areas. General Kim expressed hope for further expansion of intelligence sharing on advanced military technologies, such as manned-unmanned teaming systems and artificial intelligence, leveraging the U.S. Army's innovative expertise.

General Kim pledged to reinforce the bilateral alliance with the U.S. through various exchanges and cooperation, including a planned South Korea-U.S. Army meeting scheduled for November.
