Rangers' Chermiti out for 'significant period' with knee injury

Youssef Chermiti, a 22-year-old Portuguese striker for Rangers, has sustained a severe knee injury, specifically an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear, as a result of a collision with advertising boards during a 2-1 home defeat to Hibernian. The injury is expected to sideline him for an extended period, potentially even the remainder of the season.

Chermiti joined Rangers in September 2025 from Everton for what was reportedly the club's most expensive purchase since Tore Andre Flo in 2000. Despite interest from potential suitors, including Turkish champions Galatasaray, the club's management opted to keep him on the pitch against Hibs. Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh acknowledged that while the club's valuation of Chermiti may not have been met, his potential and current status as their player make his continued presence crucial for the team's success.

The injury comes shortly after Rangers rejected an offer for the striker, which may complicate their already challenging transfer plans. With up to five more signings anticipated, the board will likely look to bolster the team's attacking options, as Chermiti's absence will undoubtedly create a void in their squad.
