Punjab’s Rail Coach Factory to roll out first 20-coach trainset for Bangladesh Railway

Punjab's Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala is preparing to deliver its inaugural 20-coach Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) trainset to Bangladesh Railway. The first batch of these broad-gauge passenger coaches, which were ordered in 2024 from RITES, will be rolled out on Wednesday, August 12. The Ministry of Railways highlighted that these LHB coaches boast enhanced safety, reduced maintenance expenses, and improved operational efficiency.

The 20-coach ruse will consist of three air-conditioned sleeper cars, three air-conditioned chair cars, 12 non-air-conditioned chair cars, and two power cars. The coaches feature several innovative designs, including some that are being introduced for the very first time in LHB-type coaches. In April, Bangladesh Railway Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam had informed the Parliament that the nation would be importing 200 Broad Gauge (BG) passenger coaches from India, with the deliveries scheduled between June 2026 and December 2027.
