Pune civic body to complete Sadhu Vaswani railway overbridge by December end

The Pune civic body aims to complete the Sadhu Vaswani railway overbridge by the end of December. The civic chief pledged to visit the site monthly to monitor progress. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is reconstructing the bridge after dismantling the older structure. The bridge is a vital crossing point connecting Pune camp, Ghorpadi, Koregaon Park, Bund Garden, Nagar road, Yerawada, and Pune airport.

On Tuesday, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram inspected the site and confirmed that all necessary coordination, permissions, and technical aspects have been finalized with the traffic police department and the railways. The busy 'open web girder railway span,' measuring approximately 54 meters, is a technically challenging component of the project.

With over 240 trains passing through daily, maintaining rail traffic safety is crucial. The existing overhead structures at the railway span are being removed by a newly appointed contractor, with the work set to conclude within a week. Following this, the launching of the open web girder will be completed by the end of September, paving the way for simultaneous work on the remaining three spans.
