PS Omollo Issues Update on Construction of Mau Mau Road Lot 2 Project

Principal Secretary for the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has provided an update on the Mau Mau Road Lot 2 construction, an ambitious project spanning 154 kilometers across Kiambu, Murang’ and Nyeri counties. Funded by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the upgrade aims to boost connectivity and economic activity in the region, preserving the historical significance of the Aberdare foothills.

Omollo reported that significant progress has been made, with 38 kilometers of the road already upgraded to heavy-duty bitumen standards. The project proceeds from Mairi near the Kiambu-Murang’ border, traversing Kinyona, Karinga, Mununga, and extending further into Ichichi, Thuthu, Wanjerere, Kagongo, Mioro and Kiamuturi before reaching Kairo on the Nyeri County border.

The upgraded corridor will provide a strategic connection between Murang’a and Nyandarua counties, improving transport links and unlocking the economic potential of the region, particularly for agriculture. With tea as a major local product, the improved road will ease the transportation of green leaf to tea factories, benefiting farmers and improving livelihoods.

Additionally, the project incorporates extensive drainage infrastructure to address flooding, erosion, and landslides caused by the rugged terrain and high rainfall in the Aberdare slopes. Omollo emphasized the project's contribution to public safety and security, noting that better road access will enhance emergency response and access to essential government services for remote communities.
