Police inspector killed as suspected herdsmen attack checkpoint in Benue

In a recent attack in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, suspected armed herdsmen targeted a checkpoint at Ayilamo, prompting a swift response from troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) and a mobile police team. Upon spotting the troops, the assailants quickly made their getaway into the nearby bushes. Recognizing the urgency, the security personnel promptly initiated a follow-up operation to locate the fleeing suspects and restore order in the area.

During the course of the operation, the troops tragically discovered the body of a police inspector who had fallen victim to the attack. The remains have since been taken to the Ayilamo Hospital mortuary for further examination and necessary procedures. Authorities have emphasized that this incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges faced by certain regions in Benue, where both rural communities and security forces are recurring targets.

In light of this, the military has stepped up patrols and surveillance around Uzer, Ayilamo, and other border areas within Logo LGA, while simultaneously working to apprehend those responsible for the attack and prevent any further occurrences.

In an effort to maintain public safety, residents have been advised to remain calm and provide any useful information to the security agencies involved in the investigation. However, attempts to reach the spokesman of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, for confirmation of the incident have thus far been unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone have gone unanswered.
