PHCC completes first week of ‘Care Summer’ program

Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) wrapped up the initial week of its "Care Summer" program, engaging 123 students - 60 males and 63 females from various Qatari backgrounds. The initiative, spread across six health centers, serves to introduce school children to the healthcare setting, hone their skills, and inspire interest in potential healthcare careers. Umm Slal, Al Sadd, Al Wajbah, Muaither, Leabaib, and Thumama health centers are hosting male and female students respectively.

The hands-on training offers participants exposure to diverse healthcare services and an understanding of health centre operations. During the week, students undertook field visits, intensive training sessions, and learning about the patient journey, from booking an appointment to completing a visit. They toured various areas within the health centers including the reception and registration, triage, family medicine clinics, specialized clinics, laboratory, pharmacy, and wellness services, gaining a firsthand perspective of the work performed within the primary healthcare system.

The program also included awareness lectures and workshops on topics such as occupational health and safety, healthy nutrition, personal hygiene, oral and dental health, and mental health. Students were given insights into the healthcare environment and the potential career opportunities within the sector. PHCC expressed gratitude to the six host health centers for their cooperation in providing a conducive training environment and highlighted the spirit of teamwork among different departments.

The corporation appreciated the active participation, attendance, and engagement of the male and female participants throughout the summer program.

The PHCC also commended the efforts of the Corporate Communications Directorate, Operations Directorate, and Workforce Training and Development Directorate in effectively planning, organizing, and overseeing the program, which contributed to its successful first week and achievement of its educational and awareness objectives. With the first week marking completion of the initial phase, the program is set to progress towards its remaining stages, ultimately preparing a generation that is more aware of the healthcare sector and better prepared to support the national healthcare system in the future.
