Indonesia's Drug Enforcement Agency (BKR) has detained four Indonesian police officers investigating a Malaysia-bound flight for allegedly smuggling drugs, according to a report from Shah Alam. Hussein Omar Khan, head of the BCR, said police would have two days to interrogate suspects, beginning tomorrow. The move allows the BCR to compare information gathered from suspects with data collected domestically.

The police called four individuals to assist with the investigation, but emphasized that their primary focus is the alleged drug trafficking syndicate. They noted that the phone numbers used by the syndicate were registered using false identities, but they have alternative methods to track them.

Earlier, Indonesian authorities stated that the flight was detained at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta on July 29 after customs officers found 25kg of ecstasy and 2.7g of methamphetamine in his luggage. The police intensified their efforts to dismantle the syndicate, as they had previously thwarted a plot to smuggle drugs worth RM21.7 million.

The Lejogaster operation, which ran from July 12 to August 3, resulted in the arrest of one local man and eight foreign nationals aged between 22 and 51 years during raids in Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan. The suspects were believed to be drug couriers, including five Portuguese nationals, one Myanmar national, and two Singaporeans.

On July 12, police arrested two men outside a hotel lobby in Bayan Lepas, Penang, and seized two bags containing approximately 31.7kg of dried cannabis. Further searches at a house in Bayan Lepas led to the discovery of another 60 bags containing about 31kg of cannabis. On August 3, police raided a house in Taman Bukit Citra, Mantin, Negeri Sembilan, and arrested the third suspect, seizing 10 bags containing about 175.8kg of dried cannabis.

Five foreign nationals were subsequently arrested in Sepang, Selangor, with four believed to have been recruited as drug couriers.

In the third raid on the same day at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, one more foreign national was detained, and police seized two bags containing approximately 31.6kg of dried cannabis. Overall, the police seized an estimated 270kg of cannabis and a small amount of personal methamphetamine, worth around RM21.62 million. The investigation was conducted under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which prescribes a death penalty or life imprisonment, with at least 12 lashes if found guilty of wrongdoing.
