Parbhani: PMC Employees Protest Over GST Grants, Salary Arrears

On Monday, the Parbhani Municipal Corporation (PMC) Officers and Employees Association held a protest outside the municipal office, demanding immediate release of increased GST grants for employee salaries and payment of outstanding arrears. The demonstration was marked by a one-day hunger strike by the protesting staff.

Mayor Syed Iqbal met with the employees but was unable to address their concerns. Salaries and pensions for PMC officials and employees have been overdue for four to five months, a situation exacerbated by reduced salary subsidies. A proposal for additional funds was submitted to the government, awaiting approval, although the GST compensation amount remains unreleased.

This delay has disrupted regular salary payments, prompting employees to demand the government provide GST grants and further funding to the Municipal Corporation. A committee formed to tackle the issue submitted a report on November 4, 2025, recommending additional grants, yet the government did not comply. Although the GST grant was approved, the outstanding balance was not paid, forcing employees and officials to work without receiving their salaries.

Employees and officials staged a work stoppage and later held a demonstration outside the office to express their grievances. Some officers of the organization also observed a hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, pressing the same demands. The organization submitted its demands, including signatures from president Naser Khan Wahid Khan, Sanitation Workers Union president Anusayabai Jogdand and others, to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis through a memorandum, requesting the Municipal Commissioner Nitin Narvekar to hand it over.
