Out of Patriots, Dead Generals, and a Reform From the Top

Over the past week, there have been no significant changes in ground ownership. Reports indicate that the density of Russian infiltration attempts is decreasing, as the Russian command has exhausted the men committed to the summer offensive. In the northern Kharkiv region and Kostiantynivka-Druzhkivka area, both Russians and Ukrainians have reported minor gains.

Combat intensity is highest in this sector, but firing and contacts are decreasing. However, Russians continue to hit targets with glide bombs, primarily around Kostiantynivka.

On August 1, Russia launched 35 missiles – 27 ballistic and 185 attack drones – at Kyiv and surrounding areas. Only one ballistic missile was intercepted, resulting in at least 10 deaths and over 30 injuries. Damaged targets included residential buildings, a school, the Lithuanian Embassy, infrastructure, and a city ambulance facility struck twice. Seven people died in the Darnytskyi district alone.

On August 4-5, Russia launched 24 ballistic missiles and four Oniks supersonic missiles, all targeting Kyiv. None of the missiles were intercepted. North Korea potentially handed over 100+ ballistic missiles to Russia, according to Ukraine's military intelligence. Seven people were killed in the Kvitneve railroad station, and a 20-story apartment building in Sviatoshynskyi region was hit and set ablaze.

Germany, France, and the UK are reportedly meeting with Russia for potential ceasefire negotiations, although Russian claims of civilian infrastructure as military targets raise concerns. The United States has reportedly ignored Ukraine's request to obtain Patriot manufacturing licenses, potentially contributing to the West's decision not to provide more Patriot missiles. Ukraine's Magura drones have been used as aircraft carriers to strike air defense sites in Crimea, marking a significant development in drone warfare.
