Otti backs proposed South-East first national park in Abia

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved the proposal for the establishment of the first National Park in the South-East region, to be located in Abia State. During a meeting with a delegation from the National Park Service, led by its Chairman, Otti expressed full support for the initiative, describing it as timely. The governor noted that he had recently approved a request from the Commissioner for Environment to trace and identify forest reserves across the state, of which Abia has 19, with 18 available for consideration.

The governor directed the Commissioner for Environment to collaborate with the National Park Service and relevant experts in identifying a suitable location for the proposed park. Otti emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and preserving the state's natural resources. The state government will form a team, led by the Commissioner for Environment and including climate change and environmental experts, to ensure the successful establishment of the park.

The National Park Service Chairman commended Otti's leadership in the last three years and highlighted the South-East's lack of a national park, which puts Abia State in a strong position to pioneer this change. The presence of the Commissioner for Environment and other members of the State Executive Council underscored the significance of this proposal.
