Numbers don’t feed people, Sowore slams FG’s economic reform metrics

Presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress has lambasted the Federal Government's economic reforms, asserting that rising revenue figures do not equate to tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians. Speaking on Arise Television, Sowore contended that the government's reliance on metrics like revenue and tax-to-GDP ratios as evidence of economic progress is misguided.

He emphasized that the government should demonstrate its reforms' benefits through improvements in employment, education, security, wages, and access to necessities. Sowore argued that Nigerians are more concerned about their ability to afford basic necessities and whether reforms are fostering job creation, business growth, and enhanced public services.

The AAC candidate criticized the government for failing to produce wealthier citizens, constructed schools, improved infrastructure, and enhance the standard of living for Nigerians. He further criticized the removal of fuel subsidy, asserting that it has burdened ordinary Nigerians and contributed to the depreciation of the naira.

Sowore called for a fundamental shift in economic management, advocating for policies that would foster widespread prosperity and ensure the benefits of reforms are felt by the majority, rather than a select few.
