Nigeria’s Junior YellowGreens Focused on Rwanda After Dominant Win against Ghana

After their opening day loss to Uganda, Nigeria's Junior YellowGreens bounced back with a dominant five-wicket victory over Ghana at the Gahanga Oval. The win has reignited their hopes of securing a spot at the upcoming ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. The team is now set to face Rwanda in their next match on August 12, 2026, before also taking on Mozambique. Their match against Sierra Leone has been described as another crucial test of their qualification prospects.

In their match against Ghana, the Junior YellowGreens restricted their opponents to a mere 93 all out. Kenneth Boniface put up a strong performance with 97 runs off 107 balls, including nine fours and six sixes. He was ably supported by fellow batsman Okasha Isiyaku, who contributed 34 runs off 81 deliveries. The Nigerian team's disciplined bowling and sharp fielding played a significant role in their success, with Pelumi Orimolade leading the attack with 2/24, Abdullahi Ismail, Princewill Chigozie, and Okasha Isiyaku each claiming a wicket.

Ghana, on the other hand, struggled to put up a competitive score. Despite winning the toss and choosing to bat first, they found it difficult to build a meaningful partnership. Kineth Boniface was the spearhead of the Nigerian bowlers, taking 4/33 from just eight overs, while Precious Ayeni and Princewill Chigozie also chipped in with the ball.

Ghana's lone bright spot came from David Ateak, who scored 26 runs. In their chase of 94 runs, Nigeria faced some tight bowling from Ghana but held their nerve, with Boniface once again proving to be a standout performer, finishing the match unbeaten on 30 off 32 balls.
