New York woman pleads guilty to smuggling Indians into US through Canada border

A New York woman, Stacey Taylor, 43, from Plattsburgh, has pleaded guilty to her involvement in an international human smuggling conspiracy. According to court documents, Taylor was part of a failed operation in January 2025 that smuggled four individuals, three from India and one from Canada, into the United States through Canada's northern border.

On January 20, 2025, US Border Patrol agents stopped Taylor's vehicle near Churubusco, New York, and found the four men inside. The men had crossed the border without inspection in freezing weather. After examining Taylor's cellphone, authorities discovered that she had received coordinates and instructions to pick up the individuals.

The four men had crossed the border on foot before getting into her vehicle. Taylor then drove them further into the US. She admitted to picking up the men and expecting to receive payment. Further investigation revealed that Taylor had been involved in multiple other human smuggling events before January 2025. She pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in alien smuggling and four counts of alien smuggling for profit. Taylor faces a minimum statutory penalty of five years in prison.
