NANS secures release of detained Polytechnic Ibadan students after EFCC operation

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has successfully secured the release of all detained students from The Polytechnic in Ibadan, following an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operation. The students were initially arrested by the EFCC, but NANS intervened to ensure their academic progress could continue unimpeded.

Kamaldeen Ilias A, the Chief Press Secretary of NANS, revealed that the organization's delegation engaged with relevant authorities after receiving concerns over the arrests, with a focus on protecting the students' academic interests during their ongoing examinations. The delegation, led by NANS National Financial Secretary Alao John Oluwadamilola, Student Union President Fagbemi Nurudeen Ojo, and other members, emphasized the need to prevent any disruption to the students' exam preparations.

Following the intervention, all detained students were released, enabling them to return to their academic pursuits and sit for their examinations. NANS praised the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, particularly Zonal Director ACE I Haauwa Garba Ringim, for comprehending the concerns raised by the student body. The association highlighted the significance of constructive engagement between student leaders and law enforcement agencies, especially when investigations could potentially affect students' academic progression.

NANS stressed that while investigations into financial crimes are crucial, efforts should be made to minimize disruptions to students' education whenever possible. Additionally, the organization appreciated the efforts of The Polytechnic Ibadan management and other individuals who helped facilitate the students' return to their examinations.
