MP Govt Puts Bhopal, Indore Master Plans On Hold, Explores Relief For Traders

Bhopal and Indore, two major cities in Madhya Pradesh, have put their master plans on hold as the government explores potential relief for traders. This decision comes after a Supreme Court order banned commercial activities on residential plots in Bhopal. The government, which has declared both cities as metropolises, plans to develop them based on their areas rather than implementing the master plans.

Despite pressure from various sources, the government has decided not to carry out the master plans, which may be shelved indefinitely. The Urban Development Department has discussed the Bhopal master plan multiple times, but officials have yet to present it to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. This delay has hindered the preparation of the final draft, potentially delaying the implementation process.

In the absence of the master plan, the government may explore alternative ways to provide relief to traders. One possible solution could be introducing new laws to address the situation. The declaration of Indore and Bhopal as metropolitan cities has prompted the state to set aside the master plans, as the government focuses on developing these cities on a larger scale.

Urban experts emphasize the difference between master plans and metropolitan area development. Master plans outline specific areas for road widening and commercial activities, while metropolitan area development encompasses broader planning considerations. However, the decision to implement the master plans will ultimately rest with higher government authorities, and the draft plan remains unpublished until approved.

A senior officer highlighted that the final decision on implementing the master plan will depend on the approval from the government's higher-ups. Until then, the draft plan will stay under wraps, and the government continues to explore options to support traders and move forward with urban development in Bhopal and Indore.
