Moses Kuria claims govt will allow Mt Kenya leaders to join DCP ahead of 2027

Former Senior Economic Advisor to President William Ruto Moses Kuria has announced that the government will permit elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region to join the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in the coming months as political realignments for the 2027 General Election intensify. Kuria made the revelation in a statement issued on August 12, 2026.

He stated that the next 90 days would mark a crucial phase in the region's politics, prompting the government to release these leaders to defect to the DCP. Kuria claimed that the defectors would leave with significant financial resources, implying that their transition to the new party would be facilitated by their exit bonuses.

However, he did not provide any evidence to support these claims or name any specific leaders expected to join the DCP. Kuria described the anticipated defections as part of a larger political strategy, emphasizing that "Winning the war is more important than winning the battle." He also added a cryptic remark, stating, "Hizo bags ziko na something more than Alele Mtoto."

Kuria's announcement is expected to spark speculation about the growing political realignments in the Mt Kenya region, where several leaders have recently expressed discontent with the Kenya Kwanza administration. The DCP has become a new political platform that has attracted the interest of politicians linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. These remarks also come as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential election.
