MoI warns public about deepfakes used to impersonate individuals

Doha, Qatar - The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has warned the public about the growing threat of deepfakes, or AI-generated content used to impersonate individuals. In a reminder posted on social media, the ministry emphasized the importance of digital safety in the age of AI, stating: "Not everything you see or hear is real."

Deepfakes are synthetic media created using artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning to produce convincing representations of individuals, making them appear to say or do things they never actually did. Modern deepfakes can utilize advanced techniques like voice cloning, synthetic video calls, and AI-generated content to convincingly mimic the communication style of real people.

To protect themselves from falling victim to such deceptive attempts, the MoI advised the public to exercise caution when encountering online content. The ministry urged individuals to verify the source and authenticity of any information before trusting or sharing it, emphasizing the need for vigilance in the digital age.
