Lim Tean deported from M’sia to S’pore to start jail term

Singaporean lawyer and politician Lim Tean was removed from Malaysia and transported to Singapore on Aug. 11, 2026. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) explained that Lim had breached his court bail by leaving Singapore illegally while on bail for serving his prison sentence. Lim had been sentenced to six weeks in jail and a S$1,000 fine by the District Court on Feb.

17, 2025, for three charges of practicing law without a valid licence. After the High Court increased his sentence to three months and one week, Lim was ordered to appear at the State Courts on Aug. 3 to commence his punishment. However, he failed to show up, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. Lim was apprehended by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) on Aug.

6 and subsequently handed over to the SPF on Aug. 11. The investigation into Lim's unlawful exit from Singapore is still under way. Two other Singaporean men were charged on Aug. 8 for allegedly conspiring to aid Lim in his illegal departure to Malaysia. Peggy Pao, Director of the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD), stated that the police are committed to apprehending and prosecuting individuals who commit crimes in Singapore, irrespective of where they attempt to flee. She also expressed gratitude to the Royal Malaysia Police for their swift assistance in this case.
