(LEAD) Seoul shares open lower on U.S. losses

Seoul shares opened lower on Tuesday, mirroring the decline on Wall Street overnight. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 57.86 points, or 0.92 percent, to 6,241.8 by 9:15 a.m. local time. The previous day's record high on the U.S. market, seen on Monday, saw the S&P 500 dip 0.1 percent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slip 0.1 percent, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite drop 0.3 percent.

Large-cap shares in Seoul, including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, all closed down. The Korean won slipped to 1,418.5 won against the U.S. dollar by 9:15 a.m., marking a 0.2 won decrease from the end of trading the prior day.
