Kommunalwahlen Niedersachsen: Rassistische Äußerung – Grüne distanzieren sich von Kandidat

Ahead of the upcoming local elections in Lower Saxony, the Green district association in Vechta has distanced itself from one of its candidates due to a racist statement. "We have no place for racist rhetoric and anti-human statements – regardless of who utters them," the district association announced. Multiple media outlets reported on a three-year-old video in which the candidate can be heard singing the song "L'amour toujours" with the slogan "Out with the foreigners."

The man himself explained to the Greens that the recordings were a thoughtless gimmick between teenagers from neighboring communities. He regretted his choice of words and apologized. Despite the incident, the candidate will still appear on the ballot as a Green candidate in the September elections, as the party's nomination was finalized.

However, he will not receive active support from the Green district association and the party. "Whether he secures a mandate based on the election results will be decided exclusively by the voters," the district association stated. While the candidate's membership in the party remains intact, he has decided to put the matter on hold temporarily to avoid any damage to the party.

"A clear political distinction from his statements does not mean we are discarding a young member who has fallen human," the district association added.
