Kasunmu’s death makes Solanke Nigeria’s most senior living SAN – Pinheiro

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, has revealed that the death of Professor Alfred Kasunmu, SAN, has elevated Chief Folake Solanke, SAN, to the position of the most senior living Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the statutory vice-chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN). Pinheiro made this announcement in a tribute published on The Cable following Kasunmu's passing at the age of 92.

Kasunmu, a renowned lawyer and scholar, died peacefully on August 9, 2026. Described by Pinheiro as a "formidable and forensic advocate, a distinguished scholar, a former Attorney-General of Lagos State and a Professor of Law at the Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Lagos successively," Kasunmu was also known as a "lawyer's lawyer" and a gentleman.

Upon his death, the distinction of being the most senior living SAN and the position of statutory vice-chairman of BOSAN now belong to Chief Folake Solanke. Pinheiro emphasized that Kasunmu's seniority highlighted his stature in the Nigerian legal profession.
