Kano varsity debunks Sanusi carry-over claim

Northwest University Kano has refuted a widely circulated assertion that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended a university lecture to resolve a carry-over issue. The university disclosed this in a disclaimer posted on its Facebook page on August 10, 2026, as shared by its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim. The institution disclosed that it had become aware of a video circulating online featuring Sanusi after he had participated in a public lecture organized by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the university.

Social media users subsequently added captions suggesting that the Emir had an academic deficiency and sought to clear it by visiting the institution. The university categorically dismissed these claims as false and requested the public to disregard the reports. "The Management of Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has observed with concern a viral video clip of His Highness, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, PhD, CON, after attending a public lecture of International Humanitarian Law Society," the statement read.

"It was an event held at Northwest University, Kano, which someone posted; while others added write-ups circulating on various social media platforms, falsely claiming that the Emir of Kano has a carry-over and that he approached the University to clear him of the alleged academic deficiency," it added. The university emphasized that they do not endorse or support the claim and urged the public to disregard the video, write-ups, and related allegations.

NWUK warned against the creation, publication, and dissemination of what it termed as false and defamatory content, threatening to report violators to the relevant authorities for prosecution under applicable laws. The university urged the public to rely solely on official communications from Northwest University Kano for accurate and verified information regarding the institution and its activities.
