Jordan hosts high-level military talks with Syria, Iraq and Kurdistan on border security

Military representatives from Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Iraq’s Kurdistan region convened in Amman for a high-level forum focused on border security and regional threats. The Jordanian Armed Forces hosted the gathering, with senior military officials from each country in attendance, including Jordan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Yousef Ahmed Al-Hnaity, Syria’s Chief of the General Staff, Iraq’s Chief of Staff, and the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs from Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government.

The meeting addressed regional security concerns and border protection, as well as methods to improve coordination in tackling cross-border threats. Officials emphasized the need for ongoing communication and information sharing to bolster their collective capacity to address various challenges efficiently.

They stressed that regional developments necessitate greater coordination and integrated efforts. Participants underscored that safeguarding borders and countering threats requires joint and sustained action, which will enhance the region's ability to protect its security, sovereignty, and stability. They called for increased military and security cooperation, aiming to raise readiness to meet current and future challenges.

The Jordanian military highlighted that the meeting reaffirmed the enduring relations among the participating nations and their dedication to enhancing frameworks for military cooperation and coordination. These efforts aim to serve shared interests and bolster regional security and stability. On the sidelines of the meeting, Major General Al-Hnaity held discussions with US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Brad Cooper, focusing on military cooperation, coordination, and the latest regional security developments, as well as joint efforts to enhance stability.
