Jackie, the bald eagle who won hearts over livestream, has died at age 14

Jackie, the renowned California bald eagle and internet sensation, passed away on Monday following weeks of intensive veterinary care. The Ojai Raptor Center, a wildlife rehabilitation organization, had been nurturing Jackie after she was targeted by other eagles. Underlying health issues led to Jackie's anemia and significant weight loss.

Despite the best efforts of the Ojai Raptor Center's veterinary team and consulting specialists, Jackie's condition continued to worsen over the past few days. A livestream showcasing Jackie and her partner, Shadow, in the Big Bear Valley nest garnered millions of subscribers. This popular Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, managed by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley, had a dedicated fanbase since Jackie hatched in 2012.

Jackie and Shadow had been together since 2018, according to the Friends of Big Bear Valley website. The Ojai Raptor Center expressed its profound sorrow, stating it was an honor to care for Jackie. The center is devastated by the loss and acknowledges the global impact of Jackie's story. The Ojai Raptor Center is collaborating closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
